Preparing New Nappies
Its good to give your new nappies a wash to remove any impurities from manufacture, and it can boost the absorbency of natural materials. But it needn't be complicated and needn't take 8-10 washes!
- Put them all on together, no need to do separate washes
- Wash on warm (30-50 degrees) with your chosen detergent
- Natural materials (Hemp and Cotton) contain natural oils and can increase absorbency after a few warm washes. So add some clothes and do a second wash of these (They don't have to dry in between washes). They may continue to increase in absorbency, but they will be fine to use on your baby after 2 washes
- "Bamboo" is actually so highly processed to be used in nappies that it is considered synthetic, and is actually deemed Rayon. It will not significantly increase its absorbency with subsequent washes (As shown in this study), so one is fine.
