Cloth Nappy Material Comparison

Deciding on the right kind of cloth nappies is completely overwhelming. The only way to really decide is to try before you buy! Our variety pack and simple pack contain nappies using all of the materials below. But these are things to keep in mind if you're deciding to buy. 


Cotton

Advantages

  • Natural
  • Easy to clean
  • Can be cheaper
  • Fast to dry (As cotton is often a prefold or flat nappy)
  • Soft after washing

Disadvantages

  • Around 65% as absorbent as bamboo/Hemp
  • Can be more bulky
  • Stays wet if next to babys skin

Bamboo
  • Extremely absorbent
  • "Holds on" to liquid under pressure
  • Very soft after washing
  • Is not a natural material, its highly processed to become Rayon (Read more here)
  • Takes longer to dry
  • Can be expensive

Hemp
  • Natural
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Extremely absorbent
  • "Holds on" to liquid under pressure
  • Takes longer to dry
  • Can be expensive
  • Can be stiff after washing

Microfibre
  • Very absorbent
  • Soft after washing
  • Trim
  • Can be cheaper
  • Very fast drying
  • Synthetic
  • Too drying to be placed next to babies skin
  • Does not "hold on" to liquid (Liquid squishes out if compressed)
  • Can hold on to stains and dye transfer
